Construction of a new five-lane highway bridge on Highway 63 across the Athabasca River.

Structal-Bridges

  • Fabrication of the bridge steel structure (5,500 tons), including 104 main girders
  • Longest girder: 47.4 m (155.5 ft.)

Goodco Z-Tech
  • 80 elastomeric pot bearings: fixed (PF), multidirectional (PM) and unidirectional (PMCG) models
  • 2 finger expansion joints with 40-mm (1.57-in.) thick plates (71 m/233 ft. total), including the stainless-steel drainage system and joint bridging plates for guardrails.

  • Drawings of Goodco Z-Tech expansion joints

Project Highlights
  • Partnership between Structal-Bridges and Rapid-Span for the manufacturing of steel girders
  • Deck width: 33 m (108 ft.); with a deck surface of 15,500 m2 (166,841 ft²), this is Alberta’s widest bridge
