Goodco Z-Tech delivers its first Type LX-14 modular expansion joint

Goodco Z-Tech has completed the delivery of the first of two Type LX-14 modular expansion joints for the A. Murray Mackay suspension bridge rehabilitation project in Halifax, Nova Scotia. These 14-cell joints are the largest expansion joints ever to be fabricated at the Goodco Z-Tech plant in Laval and shipped in one piece to the jobsite. Weighing 40 tons each, these large structures are 52.5 feet (16.2 m) long by about 13 feet (4 m) wide.

Designed to accommodate longitudinal movements of up to 4.4 feet (1343 mm), Type LX-14 joints are continuous over the full length of the orthotropic deck. The joint support bar boxes will also serve as a road surface, unlike those on a conventional deck which are embedded in concrete.

The second expansion joint is currently under construction and will be delivered to the jobsite by the end of July.
